It was a year later, but the results were the same. In 2015 Fred Sanders from Ravenna, Ohio took the season opener for the Big Rigs at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, PA with his “Silver Bullet II”. The same results occurred this past Sunday as Sanders got another victory. This year however the big machine was almost forced into a pull-off ….
The “Silver Bullet II” is a Mack SuperLiner that has been fitted with a very unique Cummins QXK-19 engine. That engine an electronic clone of the very popular KT-600 has proven very durable in the Big Rigs Series since first being introduced by Mike Metzger from Indiana in his famous “Liberty Belle”. Sanders has utilized this power plant for a number of years and the motor now sports four huge turbo-chargers.
…. Regarding the pull-off possibility … only one other truck made a full pull and that was Justin Fredo’s ‘Cat Scratch Fever’ but that CAT powered Mack is from the same pulling team owner by Fred Sanders. And Jerry Ray Hairhoger with the Pete named “Senseless” was third with a pull of 299 feet and eight inches, just missing that magic 300’ line that would have surely triggered the pull-off that the fans dearly wanted. The USA-EAST Big Rig Series is the only major modified semi truck series in America that regularly utilizes the full pull line at three hundred feet and chooses not to run with the ‘floating finish line’.
The Big Rigs Series gets a week off this week-end and then travels to the Beloit, Ohio and the “Bunker Hill Shoot-Out” for another huge USA-EAST Series event on Saturday, June 11th.
The Big Rigs Pulling Series has been sponsored by Cen.Pe.Co. Lubricants of Cleveland, Ohio and Wolcott, Iowa for the past sixteen years. New sponsors for the oldest modified semi truck series in the United States include MAC Trailer of Alliance, Ohio and Sanders Excavating from Ravenna, Ohio.
